Week 2: Interview with an Artist

MACCABE SHELLY

My favorite piece of his work. I love the bright pink and purple. It's different from the typical colors of bottles he uses.

Maccabe Shelly is an amazing artist who turns bottles into art. Shelly does his work on his own and gets all his supplies through bottle recycling services. He spends his time welding the bottles together and due to the weight of his art, he learned lifting techniques in order to carry it. He is also at danger when he does his work. Ceramics and glass can possibly explode and due to that risk, he can’t sell or show his art outside of the school because it’s capable of exploding. He’s inspired through his studying of biology. He also relies a lot on his subconscious to create his work because it his technique to let go of all his outside distractions. The bottle colors he often used are bright green and bright blue due to the commonness of those bottles. Pinks are his favorite color bottles to use but they are very rare. Overall, with his art, he is trying to do new things and will expand his use of bottles by trying to use handles.
